Chem Sharp - Portable and Cheap! *Tungsten Electrode Sharpener*
A lot of customers come into our store asking for new "tricks" for the welding industry. So my job, when I'm not running around loading cylinders on the back of trucks, and pricing out welding material: is to try to find new product that helps out my customers. So I came across a product made by Weldmark called Chem Sharp: Part Number: WEM WM600.
People use tungsten grinders, to cordless grinders, to torches to sharpen their tungsten. But if you are looking for something cheap and portable - Weldmark Chem Sharp is for you.
All you need to do is to go to your local welding supply store, or even better shop online at www.weldingoutfitter.com and buy a container of Weldmark Chem Sharp. Use a TIG torch as a heat source to get the tungsten nice and hot and then emerge the tungsten stick approximately 1" beyond into the cup. Short out the tungsten against a ground clamp and work the piece until it glows cherry red, approximately 3/8" from the tip and then Quickly immerse the heated tip 1/4" deep into the Chem Sharp, keep dipping the tungsten in to the product until a desired point is formed.
We have had Chem Sharp sitting on the front counter, and 8 out of 10 customers did not know about it. The other day I received a phone call from a customer of mine that picked it up. He had called to order some welding supplies from us, and before he hung up he said "that powder you sold me, it works great." He went on to say he didn't think that the powder would sharpen his tungsten like he wanted it to. It is comments like that, that keep me searching for products that are affordable and easy to use. A bottle of Chem Sharp is roughly $12.00.
